Daily Morning Meditation

7.00AM – 7.45AM

Morning meditation is now taking place at Sunyata every morning at 7am (except during retreat). The meditation is in silence and lasts for 45 minutes. Everyone is welcome to join and also welcome to stay for breakfast after. Please note there will be no morning meditation during retreat time. Please check the website for these dates.

Wednesday Evening Meditation

7.50PM – 9.10PM

No need to book. Arrive at 7:50 p.m Wednesdays 8 – 9:10 p.m. Join us for a period of meditation followed by reflections. We will meditate for a period of 40 minutes, followed by a short reflection and some closing chanting. It is strongly recommended that beginners attend our monthly Introduction to Meditation Workshop, as guidance for beginners will not be given during the Wednesday evening session. Thursday evenings – Sit-and-Share Mindfulness-based Recovery Meetings

8.30pm – 10.00pm (No Need to Book : Just turn up on the evening)

Peer-led mutual-help meeting that uses Buddhist teachings, traditions and practices to help people make a wholehearted recovery from the suffering caused by addictive behaviors. The meetings are open to any individuals wishing to live an intoxicant free life through the guidance and practice of the Five Precepts.

Women’s Day Retreat

June 27 @ 9:30 am - 2:30 pm

A day of meditation for women including periods of sitting, lying and walking meditation. An opportunity to enter into our own inner silence. Absolute beginners totally welcome. The first sit will be a guided meditation including a 'body scan' meditation. The first walking meditation will also be guided. The day will be held in Noble silence as far as possible. Introduction to Meditation Workshop

June 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This workshop is designed for beginners. The afternoon will focus on teaching Insight Meditation (Vipassana), the type of meditation practiced at Sunyata Buddhist Centre. There are two aspects of Insight Meditation : firstly, using the breath as an anchor to still the mind; and secondly, using this stillness to reflect on the nature of experience.
